It’s often missed by many tourists, which contributes to its serene vibe. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this island is an excellent choice. The lack of major crowds and bustling nightlife really enhances that sense of serenity. It truly feels like an island escape away from the crowds. Some beaches feel like they could be your own private paradise.

The Beaches are Beyond Pristine!

Okay, I had heard the beaches were good, but wow! Koh Kood boasts some of the most pristine and unspoilt beaches in Thailand. We’re talking soft white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Beaches like Klong Chao Beach and Bang Bao Beach are stunning backdrops for relaxing and water activities. What surprised me was how often these breathtaking spots were less crowded compared to popular destinations, allowing for a truly serene natural beach experience. Walking on the sand felt like stepping on “premium powder,” and the clear water was just incredible. Even seeing photos didn’t prepare me for how beautiful places like Klong Hin beach truly were.

Getting Around is an Adventure (and Super Chill)!

This island is relatively undeveloped, and I quickly learned that private cars are not allowed. Getting around means hopping on a scooter! There’s essentially one paved road that circles the island, making it nearly impossible to get lost. The roads are generally in good condition, though be prepared for some steep hills. The best part? There is very little traffic! Renting a scooter (around 300-350 THB per day) offers incredible freedom to explore. You won’t find public Songthaew services like on some other islands, though you can rent one privately. This transport style adds to the island’s quiet charm.

The Journey There is Part of the Fun!

Getting to Koh Kood isn’t as simple as flying directly onto the island – there’s no airport here! This felt different from islands like Phuket or Samui. You typically fly to Trat on the mainland (a roughly 1-hour flight from Bangkok) or take a bus or taxi (around 5-6 hours). From Trat, it’s a taxi or minibus to Laem Sok Pier (about 40-60 minutes), followed by a ferry or speedboat ride to Koh Kood (ranging from 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the service). Booking transfers and ferry tickets in advance is recommended. While it might sound like a few steps, it truly felt like an adventure that led to discovering this slice of paradise!

It Feels Authentically Thai!

Koh Kood isn’t dominated by large resorts or tourist chains. It still retains a feeling of authentic Thai island life. There’s a small local population, and you have the chance to engage with them. Visiting local markets and trying traditional Thai cuisine offers a genuine experience. It’s less developed than other islands, with amenities and infrastructure being more basic. You won’t find 7-11s or large supermarkets like Tesco or Makro, but local stores offer essentials. This less commercialized aspect contributes significantly to its charm and appeal for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path destination. We even had an amazing experience trying local dishes like mushroom curry at a spot where the driver eats! And the seafood? Incredibly fresh, especially from the fishing village.

So Much Natural Beauty to Explore!

Beyond the beaches, the island’s natural beauty blew me away! It’s covered in dense tropical rainforests, features stunning waterfalls, and lush vegetation. Exploring the interior felt truly immersive. The Klong Chao Waterfall is a must-visit, offering a refreshing dip in freshwater pools. There are also impressive giant trees tucked away in the rainforest.

Beyond the Beaches: Activities and Stays!

While relaxation is key, there’s still plenty to do, like snorkeling and diving in the waters teeming with marine life and vibrant coral reefs. You can discover underwater wonders like colorful fish and sea turtles.

Even during peak season, while resorts can be expensive, the island maintains a quiet vibe.
